Okay... with the PSP comingout tomorrow, I figured I'd do a PSP/DS comparison of my own. Just so you know, I do not own nor do I have any intentions of buying either anytime soon (although I would like to). ------------------------------- 1) SYSTEM PRICE
The DS is $150 new, and the PSP is $250. 'Nuff said.
WINNER: DS ------------------------------- 2) GAMES
The DS has been out for a little over 4 months, and it has, I believe 8 games out (yes you can play GBA games on it, but for the purposes of this comparison, only system specific games are being counted). The PSP has had... what... 4 games out for a week already? And there are going to be something like 16 within the next few weeks?
WINNER: PSP ------------------------------- 3) GAME PRICES
The game prices for the PSP range from $40 - $50. DS games are between $20 - $35.
WINNER: DS ------------------------------- 4) MEMORY
The PSP requires a memory stick to save. To save everything properly, you will need at least a 1 Gig stick. Those are around $100. You don't need to buy anything extra for the DS for memory.
WINNER: DS ------------------------------- 5) GRAPHICS
The graphics on the PSP are between the PSX and the PS2, leaning closer to PS2. The graphics on the DS look good... better than the N64, but not near the GC. However, games like Metroit: Hunters looks great.
WINNER: PSP ------------------------------- 6) BATTERY LIFE
This is what hurts the PSP the most IMO. The battery life of the DS is between 10 - 14 hours. The battery life of the PSP is 3 - 5 hours, and to fully charge the battery, it takes 2 hours.
WINNER: DS ------------------------------- OVERALL WINNER: DS -------------------------------
There you have it folks. That's what I find to be the most important parts of the systems, and how I figure they stack up.

Dude, I'm sick of all these damn hand-held gaming systems... Since the tender age of...I think it was eight....One of my next door neighbors had an original Gameboy. Thick grey rectangle, green screen....Couldn't see what the hell you were playing....Needed to use a magnifier everytime you played...A and B buttons...Control pad...Start & select....Ahhhh, the good ol' days.... I never wanted to buy the Gameboy though. I thought they were a waist of money and were pieces of crap. However, I was always holding out for a day when Nintendo would modify the Gameboy and allow it to play Super NES games... Colored Gameboy came and went...But I was still holding out for Super NES graphics... My friends told me to just buy a Gameboy Color because the chances of Nintendo coming out with Super NES graphics was impossible...They thought I was stupid... Finally, my wish was granted! And Nintendo came out with the Gameboy Advance! ;D After it was out on the market for a couple of years, I decided to purchase one... Then, the bastards over at Nintendo came out with the Gameboy SP; just two months after I purchased the GBA. And now, Nintendo DS.... Is there no end to their madness...? I think the Nintendo DS is a hand-held system for wussy videogamers. You use a frickin' stick and tap a sensor pad to move your characters around...What a frickin' joke! What the hell happened to the control pad? The control pad's been around since the beginning of time...And now they get rid of it? What the hell's wrong with Nintendo?! (NOTE: I haven't played the Nintendo DS....I haven't seen one up close, but from the looks of it on the comertials, you use a sensor pad a lot more than you would a control pad...So if you tell me there's a control pad on the Nintendo DS, don't jugde me wrong. I just see what the comertials are showing me.)

Yes, there is a control pad on the DS. and the only games that you really use the touchscreen for to "move" your characters is like Metroid Hunters, and you use the touch screen to look around and stuff. You can also switch the controlls to not have to use the screen. You also use the Touchscreen to controll the camera in Super Mario 64 DS. I was really leary of the touchscreen at first as well... until I played a game on the DS.

PSP is a glorified "Beyblade Launcher."

What is up with that 'toilet paper' thing on DS? I have no clue what it's meant for. Are they trying to simulate an experience on the toilet or something? Riveting. . . .

it's one of the mini games on Wario Ware Touched! on the DS... the Wario Ware series is one of the most addicting series I've ever laid hands on.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. DS this, DS that, PSP sucks donkey d*ck, etc., etc.
Personally, I'm all for the PSP. I don't care if you need a memory stick. Hell, I need a memory card for every game I play, so it's a needed requirement anyways.
I hate the DS. I tried it out at a local EB, and...I could not deal with it. Yeah, cool graphics. Yeah, another screen that's useful if you're playing a game with an in-game map. Yeah, it's touch-sensitive.
Big frelling deal.
DC has two screens, but they're both the size of the original Game Boy screen. It's a flip-up device, which means that it's like a crappy laptop. Okay, backwards-compatible, so what? I can't find most of my old games, and I've beaten them a million times. It's got the 4-button pad, like a rip-off of the PS controllers.
But can the DS play movies? Can it store photos? Or music?
From what I've read, no.
My money's on the PSP.
It's got the strength and power of the original PS (beefed up, of course), plus, you can watch movies on it. As of now, "Spider-man 2," "Hellboy," and a few other movies have been released in conjunction with the slated 24 launch games.
Plus, you'll be able to download your movies to a memory stick and play them on the PSP.
It's like a DVD player, only cooler, and infinitely more portable.
And the controls rock. Yes, initially, they had a recall due to the Square button, but that's been fixed, and they're shipping out new units.
Right under the D-Pad, there's a thing that looks like a speaker, but it's actually an analog stick. Woo!
I got to hold onto one of these babies at Media Play the day after they came out. I loved it. Beautiful graphics, easy to use interface, slick controls, nice design, able to fit in nearly any pocket....
I tell ya, as soon as I get the cash, I'm getting one of these. It's definitely worth it.
DS: Dog Shite. PSP: Pimp Slick Playa.
...and that's all there is to it.

PSP is much better because you can play movies, and it also works as an MP-3 player! It rocks! ;D ...Course I wouldn't buy either of them though...I'm still kinda miffed the first time I bought a GBA, and then a few months later the bastards over at NIntendo came out with the SP... ...I'm kinda boycotting hand-held gaming devices for the time being...Technology HAS to slow down so that the masses can keep up and buy the products...
